How to Treat Panic Attacks

Hello everyone,  I'm Jenny, a 43 year old designer, living in Chicago with my husband Ted and my two angels Ryan(19) and Kate(17). The reason I'm writing this blog is that I've suffered from panics attacks for years and fortunately since last year, I've managed to cope with the my problem

Before explain how I did it, here is:

My Story

I've been having panic attacks for about 7 years and  occasionally I used to think they have stopped but they always returned. I've had probably 1000 but always feel that "this one is different" and I'm about to die. In the early days I used to run to the ER for help and they stopped taking me seriously after a while. I was convinced that there's something physically wrong with me, but medical science couldn't find out what !

Initially I thought that smoking was causing them so 6 years ago I stopped smoking totally. Panic attacks decreased. Then I gave up coffee. I'm running out of things to give up. But I still used to get panic attacks, but not as often. I've found that lack of sleep is seems to be a factor.

I used to take Paxil for several years for this problem... to be honest, it didn't help me so I stopped using the medicine.

Here are a few things I did which temporary helped to reduce the periods:

  • Avoid alcohol, cigarattes, fast food, coffee
  • Get enough sleep
  • Meditate
  • Get exercise every day
  • Eat healthy food
  • Avoid anger/confrontation

These all help a lot but why did I still get panic attacks ?

I believe it's a question of acceptance. Other people have told me that you need to believe that "panic attacks won't kill me" - really believe that. Another thing I hear a lot is that you need to take the attitude "if I die, I die, there's nothing I can do about it".

Anxiety Attack Symptoms

Having knowledge of common anxiety attack signs can save you from worrying too much. You will at least know you aren't going crazy, even if it doesn't make the attack milder. Anxiety attacks can create a continuous cycle of fear about panic and actual episodes. Sometimes they happen without warning. You can reduce the number of episodes just by being aware of what is happening. So, let's take a look at the most widespread symptoms. With this you will be a bit better prepared.

Many sufferers will have a shortness of breath. You may feel a heaviness in your chest so you aren't able to get a full breath. Having this happen can lead to the panic getting out of control. Which, of course, usually makes things worse, especially when you don't know what it is. When this begins, take full slow breaths and try to control your breathing.

Some get a spaced out mental condition regarding the immediate surroundings. One is aware of the surroundings but can't process the information and respond in the right way, if at all. This can, in some cases, be attributed to the breathing problems making one feel faint.

A speeding heart is a common complaint. An impending panic episode can be precluded by this symptom. Your heart just seems to speed out of control. You can even feel it beating heavily and the awareness of this can be frightening. A large proportion of people that have panic attacks feel that their heart is going to give out.

Everyone has slightly different symptoms with anxiety. I experienced the racing heart and an indescribable restlessness, along with a feeling of impending doom. I had to move because I felt I would explode if I just sat there, so I would walk for half an hour or so to calm down. My attacks were set off by an incredible level of stress. Don't stress right now because I did a lot of checking for a good way to beat panic attacks.

How I solved my problem:

After I decreased my panic attacks by the exercises I presented above, I decided to solve the problem permanently. I researched over a dozen programs about treating panic attacks and finally I have found the one that actually did work. The name of the program is "Panic Away", very famous by giving people the ability to immediately stop fearing another panic attack. I started the program last year September, and so far all I can say is: IT DID WORK FOR ME. I've managed to cope with my problem and no serious attacks so far!!
